In order to hold a Special Event at any facility within the Florida Department of Corrections, you must complete the following steps:
Draft a Proposal: Draft a proposal with as much specific information you can provide about your event. What is the purpose of the event? Is there data or evidenced based research to support it? Be succinct, but provide as many details as you can. Include it with your Special Event application.
Complete a Special Event Application: Complete a Special Event application and submit it along with a proposal for your event at least six weeks prior to the event. Follow the submission instructions printed on the application. Do not submit it to a facility.
Submit the Curriculum: (If applicable) Submit copies of your curriculum along with your application for the event. All curriculum materials submitted should be clearly marked with the name of the organization and person who is submitting them.
Certify Volunteers: Each volunteer member of your event will need to complete a volunteer application and go through the volunteer training process prior to your event. See the Volunteer Application page for instructions.
After your event application/proposal is approved and you receive an approval email from Volunteer Services, you will be able to contact any facility to coordinate your event. **Note: Each facility has the authority to approve or deny any event request based on their needs and capabilities. Contact information for these facilities is on our website under Institutions or Community Corrections.
Please note: Do not contact Chaplains for scheduling events at the institution level. You will need to complete the above steps.
As we strive to create a healthy, sustainable and compassionate environment that supports our foundation and values, and offer offenders rehabilitative programs that support a continuum of services for a successful transition into the community, we know that you strive for the same goal.
