Position Classifications
Career Service - Most jobs within the Department are in the Career Service personnel system, which provides uniform pay, benefits, recruitment, and selection procedures.
SES - Positions in the Selected Exempt Service (SES) personnel system include middle management, professional, and supervisory positions.
SMS - The Senior Management Service (SMS) personnel system is comprised of upper management and policy-making positions.
OPS - Temporary jobs are funded by Other Personnel Services (OPS) appropriations. Employees hired as OPS receive an hourly wage but no benefits such as insurance, leave, or retirement.
