Doctoral Internship Program in Professional Psychology

Selection Criteria

We received 109 applications for the 4 intern positions for the 2011-2012 year. We participate in the APPIC Internship Matching Program and all of our internship positions are offered through the APPIC Match.  Therefore, applicants should participate in the APPIC Match (see www.appic.org ) through the National Matching Service (see www.natmatch.com/psychint  for applicant information).  We will review applications and offer interviews to those applicants who appear to be a good fit with our program. Prospective interns are invited to visit the site. Although a face-to-face interview is preferred, phone interviews are acceptable and will not necessarily affect selection.

Academic performance, publications, statement of interest, letters, and references will all be utilized to determine the prospective intern’s readiness for internship and goodness-of-fit to the internship environment. Practica hours, setting, and populations served are important considerations as well. Generally, 600 practica hours of intervention and assessment are required for successful applications, but inpatient and forensic experience will be taken into consideration. Students from Clinical Psychology programs are likely to be a better match with our program, but applicants from Counseling Psychology who have relevant backgrounds and interests are encouraged to apply.

This internship program makes concerted effort to, and has been successful in, recruiting minority students.
