As the largest agency in the state and the third largest corrections agency in the nation, the Florida Department of Corrections has more than 25,000 employees serving a critical need in society. We are responsible for the incarceration of more than 100,000 inmates in our correctional institutions and the supervision of more than 150,000 additional offenders in communities all across Florida. We strive to be a national pacesetter among government and criminal justice agencies and we are committed to successful re-entry and evidenced-based practices in correctional institutions, community corrections and central administration.

Our specialized professional internship programs provide undergraduate and graduate students with a meaningful professional experiential learning opportunity within the field of corrections. Our internship programs team works collectively with students, academic advisors, intern supervisors, correctional professionals and agency leadership to structure learning experiences that integrate knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in professional correctional work settings.
We have internship opportunities available statewide in a variety of professional and academic disciplines including: Accounting, Agricultural Sciences, Business Administration, Communications, Criminal Justice, Education, Film and Video Production, Information Sciences, Law, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration and Policy, Social Work, and several related therapy disciplines including Art, Creative Writing, Music Education and Theater.
All placements require a commitment of a minimum of one academic semester/term and a minimum commitment of 20-30 hours per week, with the exception of Probation and Parole which requires a 40 hour per week commitment. Unless otherwise noticed, all of our internships are unpaid.
